Openings and closures
In May 2026, 471,751 companies opened in Brazil and 279,959 companies closed, a net of +191,792. Of those openings, 363,729 opened as MEI (77.1%).
Compared
Openings fell 1.5% on April 2026 and were 13.0% above May 2025. In 12 months there were 5,382,181 openings, 14.7% above the 12 months before.
How we count
Each company is counted once, by its head office, from the Receita Federal's CNPJ Open Data. A closure may be recorded with a past date: the latest months may still gain closures in later publications.
