Openings and closures
In February 2026, 506,286 companies opened in Brazil and 263,894 companies closed, a net of +242,392. Of those openings, 387,344 opened as MEI (76.5%).
Compared
Openings fell 8.8% on January 2026 and were 14.4% above February 2025. In 12 months there were 5,107,891 openings, 12.3% above the 12 months before.
How we count
Each company is counted once, by its head office, from the Receita Federal's CNPJ Open Data. A closure may be recorded with a past date: the latest months may still gain closures in later publications.
