Openings and closures
In January 2026, 555,330 companies opened in Brazil and 316,325 companies closed, a net of +239,005. Of those openings, 441,075 opened as MEI (79.4%).
Compared
Openings rose 73.0% on December 2025 and were 3.5% below January 2025. In 12 months there were 5,044,310 openings, 13.2% above the 12 months before.
How we count
Each company is counted once, by its head office, from the Receita Federal's CNPJ Open Data. A closure may be recorded with a past date: the latest months may still gain closures in later publications.
