Openings and closures
In December 2025, 320,972 companies opened in Brazil and 223,878 companies closed, a net of +97,094. Of those openings, 234,189 opened as MEI (73.0%).
Compared
Openings fell 11.1% on November 2025 and were 23.1% above December 2024. In 12 months there were 5,064,449 openings, 19.0% above the 12 months before.
How we count
Each company is counted once, by its head office, from the Receita Federal's CNPJ Open Data. A closure may be recorded with a past date: the latest months may still gain closures in later publications.
